Hi all,
Earlier this months we received the following lovely email from Lucy Deakin, who is Eliza's mum. As you know we have tried to 'do our bit' to offer a little help and support Eliza for the past few years. Here is what Lucy said:
"Dear Anne-Marie, Kevin & the Harley Baildon Rally,
Thank you so much for thinking of us again this Christmas. It was so lovely to see you, Anne-Marie, and for the kids to be able to say hi as well. The gift you have given us - this year and in the past - is so touching and we are truly thankful to you. I'm going to take the girls away for a couple of days in half term up to Glasgow for a little holiday, and they are so looking forward to it.
Last week marked 6 years since Eliza was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, and I've attached some pictures from over those 6 years. There have been so many obstacles and bumps along the way, but we finally feel we are turning a corner. In November Eliza got to ring the 'end of treatment bell' and her whole London treatment team came out to wish her well. This means that they consider her tumours stable enough to not need to be checked under anaesthetic anymore (after 80+ general anaesthetics over the years!), and we have had our visits reduced down to 6 monthly check ups in London. This is a massive change to where we were at a couple of years ago, with hospital visits on a weekly basis at some points and a lot of uncertainty about how successful treatment would be.
Eliza is registered partially sighted, and needs one-to-one support at school, but is such a bright little girl and always has a smile. We couldn't have asked for more courage and resilience from her!
As Eliza's path is smoother now than it has ever been in the past, we'd love for you to be able to offer your Christmas gift to another family in need next year. It has been such a highlight for our girls to have a trip and a treat as a result of the money you have given us, and we would love for another family to be able to experience that at a difficult time. Thank you so much x
With love and best wishes to you all,
Lucy, Jamie, Megan, Freya, Eliza & Rowan x"
